For the first time the bi annual Campbells Bay School music production (for all year five and six students) was staged in the Bruce Mason Centre, Takapuna. As a result of the on-going refurbishment and extension of our venerable school hall a change in venue was required and the Bruce Mason Centre fitted the bill very well indeed. In fact, feedback from members of the audience and all those involved in the production was such that the Board has agreed to fund the 2020 for staging in the Bruce Mason Centre.
The two performances of Mulan attracted a great deal of support with the matinee being almost sold out and the evening performance selling out well before the performance. The show itself was a great success with students enjoying performing in a professional theatre environment while members of the audience benefited from comfortable tired seating with good sight lines to the stage and great sound.
Featuring the school’s 30 plus student orchestra (and supported by Sheryl Clark on piano) under the baton of our wonderful musical director, Sharon Knight, the actors and chorus, directed by Gabby Hobin, were extremely well supported. Members of the school staff, supported by volunteers, did an outstanding job with all aspects of the show with the result owe had two magnificent performances that will linger long in the memory. Hopefully, being involved in such a production will have encouraged many students to ‘have a go’ when the opportunities are presented when they leave our school.
